Pass

Passes are purchasable in-game upgrades. Creators can add Passes to their decks to allow players to unlock new content, which in turn earns Bricks for the creator.

Passes can be used to offer gated upgrades, items, new levels, or other premium content inside a deck. It's up to the creator to incorporate passes into their deck's logic to decide how to use them.

Who can use Passes?

  • For now, only a small group of partner accounts can implement passes in their decks.
  • Any player on Castle can purchase passes and unlock content. Purchased passes appear in the player's Inventory.

Adding passes and earning bricks

To add a pass, navigate to a deck under the Create screen and find the Passes tab. Choose a price between 5 and 9999 bricks, and select a piece of artwork to represent your pass.

Every time a player purchases a pass, a portion of the bricks they spent will be awarded to the deck creator who offered the pass.

Pass scope

Passes are scoped to the creator's account. When a player purchases a pass on one deck, the same pass can be used on all of the decks by that creator.

Passes do not expire. Once a player has purchased a pass, it appears in their Inventory forever.

Using passes

The following triggers and responses are available to use in game logic:

  • Offer a pass to the player
  • If the player has a pass
  • When a pass is purchased

Pass guidelines

Users must know exactly what they are purchasing before completing a transaction, and purchases should not exploit, mislead, or harm players.

One implication of this is: Don't make gambling or loot boxes. Be sure and write an honest description of the pass that tells people up front what they're paying for.

Please see the community guidelines for more detail. If you're not sure whether your game design fits our guidelines, please reach out to the dev team.

How are passes different than Snapshots?

Snapshots are another item that can be offered in exchange for bricks, but they work differently:

  • The creator can check whether a player has purchased a pass, but they can't check whether they have purchased a snapshot.
  • Players can choose to capture snapshots any time, whether offered or not, but passes must be offered by the creator.
